The 10 Commandments of Friendship

The 10 Commandments of Friendship
1. Thou shalt be thoughtful.
Little surprises from a pal always bring a smile even to the most depressed or harassed person. There's a particular warm and fuzzy feeling one gets whenever he or she receives a "just-wanna-say-hi" phone call or text, or a letter from a very dear pal (that would be you!). These gestures are a simple way of showing them that they are loved and thought of.

2. Thou shalt learn to say sorry.
Face it, you will have disagreements with people(especially with your parents) once in a while. It's all part of life. These may range from minor arguments, like making tampo because a friend forgot to get you a science handout to more major issues, such as blurting out her deepest and darkest secret to a guy bud. Whatever the case may be, knowing how to apologize will help you resolve your conflicts sooner.

3. Thou shalt forgive and forget.
Having an enemy is one of the worst feelings in the world. You're always afraid to walk into a party for fear that she might be there. So let bygones be bygones. Nothing or no one is worth keeping your blood level at an all-time high. Even if it is the hardest thing to do, learn to forgive. And instead of burying the hatchet in her head, just release your remaining frustration through constructive ways like indulging in a hard game of tennis or brisk walking.

4. Thou shalt support each other's endeavors.
Think of yourself as a one-woman cheering squad for the accomplishments of your friend. She may not be the best volleyball player around but she certainly deserves a word of encouragement and praise as she tries, for the nth time, to serve the ball over the net.

5. Thou shalt never take friends for granted.
This commandment applies to all those who are part of your life in one-way or the other. They could be your over-protective parents or friends you have made over the years. She could be the teacher who pushes you to work harder or the yaya who always packs the yummiest baon for you. Whoever they may be, don't forget that these are the same people who have helped shape the person you are today.

6. Thou shalt never let a guy come between you.
You love the way he looks at you, but the problem is, he gives your best friend the same "I'm-nuts-about-you" stares, too! You're sure that you can easily make him yours once he gets to know the dazzling you, but one look at your best friend tells you she has the exact ideas as well.

7. Thou shalt never break thy friend's trust.
Dogs are a man's best friends like diamonds are a girl's best friends. Notice a similarity between the two? Neither can talk.

8. Thou shalt be honest with each other.
Real friends tell each other everything–whether it's about how baduy an outfit looks on her or how upset you got because she passed the test you both studied hard for–and you didn't. The point is: friends don't hide anything from each other. Believe me, keeping things bottled-up inside is not good for your friendship or your health for that matter.

9. Thou shalt remember: differences make life fun.
Although it is true that "birds of the same feather, flock together"-there is no such thing as exactly the same bird. Even twins have their differences. So while you and your friend have the same taste in clothes, don't expect her to go wild every time they play "Crash" by Dave Matthew's Band on the radio.

10. Thou shalt know that life is a game of give and take.
Two or more people can be included in this game. The rules are easy to follow. The players must practice both giving and taking. Although giving is considered more valuable than taking, the players must also be able to recognize the value of accepting help when they need it.
